At Xact Data Discovery, that nucleus is XEDD (pronounced Zed). It’s the flagship that enables us to process massive quantities of data for our business, our clients and our clients’ customers. We built it from scratch, eagerly anticipating the explosive growth and needs that the world of Data Discovery and Management would demand—rather than fighting them. As the nucleus for technology and communication, XEDD is engineered to maximize data processing—while minimizing the process itself. Because at Xact Data Discovery we believe the process of harnessing information from the data we mutually seek is as important as the knowledge it provides in the end.
XEDD is based upon Microsoft .NET technology backed by Microsoft servers. The architecture has been designed from day one to be a highly scalable in-house solution that meets rapidly changing customer requirements. The XEDD system uses best-of-breed 3rd party vendors to provide the highest level of expertise demanded by the EDD market.
XEDD is based on a component/modular architecture. This allows components to be added, removed or changed based on the requirement of the system. When new file types need to be acquired into the system or rendered into TIFF/PDF, the development team can utilize new third party products or APIs and add them into the system. This allows the system to continually grow and expand to process ever growing relevant document types.
XEDD processes office documents utilizing Microsoft’s Primary Interop Assemblies (PIA). This gives XEDD the advantage of being able to apply almost any business logic to preserve the metadata and fine tune images that are delivered to our customers. Xact Data Discovery can provide any print options that the original application provides to end users, such as to expand hidden columns in Excel or display Tracked Changes in Word documents.
XEDD was designed on the latest Microsoft Enterprise technologies which allow it to scale by simply increasing the number of servers running as part of the system. In addition, Xact Data Discovery’s data center was designed around and fine tuned to the XEDD architecture, providing the capacity, performance, and high availability required of an EDD system.
The Xact Data Discovery development team can rapidly respond to feature requests unique to particular EDD engagements. The XEDD customizable architecture allows new enhancements to be added to the business processes and feature set on demand.
